Toisen hyvä on toisen paha.

Purpose manifesting.

The Dark Mountain artist collective (http://dark-mountain.net/) calls for new modes of writing in their manifesto, or to be more precise, they want artists to rewrite the map to match the condition to reinstate the importance of the narrative even if our narratives are devoid of that authority that the master's voice gave it in the past.

”If we name particular writers whose work embodies what we are arguing for, the aim is not to place them more prominently on the existing map of literary reputations. Rather, as Geoff Dyer has said of Berger, to take their work seriously is to redraw the maps altogether — not only the map of literary reputations, but those by which we navigate all areas of life.

Even here, we go carefully, for cartography itself is not a neutral activity. The drawing of maps is full of colonial echoes. The civilised eye seeks to view the world from above, as something we can stand over and survey. The Uncivilised writer knows the world is, rather, something we are enmeshed in — a patchwork and a framework of places, experiences, sights, smells, sounds. Maps can lead, but can also mislead. Our maps must be the kind sketched in the dust with a stick, washed away by the next rain. They can be read only by those who ask to see them, and they cannot be bought.” (http://dark-mountain.net/about/manifesto/)

The thing I most appreciate about this manifesto is that it uses the metaphor of cartography to understand literature and its function; the stories are our maps and they frame and contextualize the ideas we have and thus have direct implications on the systems we lead. The biggest thing, the reason why we really are in need of new modes of literature, is that literature along with practically all forms of art have become useless as the post modern condition of late capitalism rendered everything equally meaningless as even scientific narratives have been rendered equal with fairy tales, just stories among stories all of which have no other purpose then that of entertainment if we assign to this absolute cultural relativity, and this I mean collectively, because it is granted, that on individual level some of us have faith – righteous or not.

                            http://www.guide-to-the-universe.com/images/hubble-volume.jpg

Meaning requires a context, but if we are that obsessed with freedom that we cut ourselves loose of everything, never commit to any narrative (out of fear, uncertainty or alienation), neither pain nor pleasure can have any purpose other than itself. Art for art. Me for me. My cock for my cock.
So, what we actually need is criteria to evaluate the stories, something to help us assess what is actually a "good" narrative. If we are all beyond good and evil there is no way to make such assessment, and if we interpret all contextualization as totalitarian and evil as has been the tendency since the philosophical revolutions of the 20th century, we end up in the same position as the authors of this confusion, like Derrida, for one, who couldn't even say that apartheid is wrong without contradicting himself.

Maybe what the writer should ask him/herself is what purpose does the writing have? With all we know to be uncertain, is there any point to say anything? For me it is obvious, the map is useless if it doesn't even have the possibility of taking you anywhere. If the symbols refer to conditions and places far from where we are, we can't understand our place here. For the tribe lost in the desert, the one who at least says he knows where he is going becomes the author of their collective fate no matter if he knows where they are going or not.
We know that there is no certainty, since all knowledge in this day and age is approximate at best, but even if our map is an approximation, if it gets us out of the desert, it is good enough for that purpose.

If we live assuming that our systems will not be checked by any natural or physical limit, we might hit a wall we never knew about. So we need a reference, something to tell us what is real. And if the world is lost in the milliseconds between hearing and understanding, if nothing but the text is real or relevant to the text, then the text stands alone without a purpose – empty language games. Only the words that have reference have meaning, so, even if we can't go back to the time of just two books, that explain each other; the world and the bible, because we have lost faith in the absolute word that was propaganda to begin with and there is no divine authority we can refer to, we still need the authors who have a sense of place and time to give us the context, to give us the maps, so that we can cross reference our experience of the world and try to make sense of our place in time, maybe even alter the collective course, but only after it becomes obvious which stories get us out of the desert, and which make us lose our bearing.

The bible is a book, and as such, literature, words inspired by the divine author of the world, but if God is omnipotent, surely the laws of God are unbreakable, like the laws of nature, thermodynamics and gravity, still with room to maneuver, but no matter how we trust that the coffee in the cup will stay warm, it will cool down in time, that is the law, and we know it, because we can touch it and taste it, and that it is real.

If, in stead, all is but a dream, maybe you can sleep off the nightmare?

The abattoirs revisited

I had been there before, described the world where these bloody things can happen, in the abattoir. The scene of cruelty, devoid of emotions, a room for efficient movements and pragmatic use of space that can be hosed down with water and the floor drain takes it away. Then there is the fat accumulation tank... details, but for a complete picture, necessary, and I do see these things with new eyes. Now there is more past between me and those moments that left me with the experience.

On the farm the act of killing can be ritually appeased, the victim given the respect efficiency can't afford. The animals fight over the rejected parts, we uphold the humanity by refusing the tabooed and dirty percentage of the resources. We are better than that. We have our pride.

When we love our spirits, we will not kill in that cold way. We will sacrifice some effort to beauty and for that harmony we recognize in beauty. For us to remain human, the death must be humane.

The abattoir is not a harmonious concept. There the heart is to be cut out to put the blame on that emptiness thus revealed. It is you with the butcher's heart. Having been there do you have it in you to suffer the atonement to win back even some of your innocence?

Or will you find peace and your place with the carcasses of the animals?

Maybe it is not needed to go there, but I have, and I did revisit. And no one deserves to be loved to death just because that abattoir exists. The butcher can have his or her pride of professionalism, but the one that does not admit to have been there and demanded for the heart to be cut out doesn't have even that. And the abattoir lives on.

From the Abattoir of Dreams pt I

As if I longed to those cold rooms again
to those where from all Horrors derive,
to where I used to hide

In the abattoir of dreams,
merely observing
the grand butcher stands still
as the machine works its ways

To escape
I have crawled
through the sleaze
and the gutters

No name for savior
nor deliverance,
for whom do I then pray?

Though he's not a friend of mine,
the butcher,
I can sense his composure,
the abyss
beyond the sky’s canopy

I bear his scent
and it's not a pleasant one
but the breeze is fresh
in the vacant rooms,
in greatness of his absence.

From the Abattoir of Dreams pt II

In the abattoir of dreams
the butcher stands still
(merely observing)

Our will
laying down to die
at his feet,
weary from the trails
after petty crumbs of hope

Famished and humiliated,
for fortunes cruelties,
our fading efforts all lead
to this grave for bravery

Mesmerized by doubt
by its acidity on the palate
burning on the tongue,
savage and wordless
and tied into silence,
all without effort,
any from no-one

Its all in the wind,
in the constant chill
what we've striven for
but never wanted

Wanting out from the inside
we could never bare being exposed.

From the Abattoir of Dreams pt III

The abattoir
has now drawn back
all my dreams
and marrow

as I lay down
into this grave
for all my bravery
and effort

my lack
and void
drained
even the bitters in me

my clean palate
with a taste of teeth
that would still bite

I give
to a maggot
to which I am
the hole.

Afterwords

The sunk dreams and high ideals also brought us here, and for myself I admit that I was on a crash course with reality, with the things that don't budge at our dismissal of them. The great lover I wasn't demanded something for his cancellation, the friend in need who was never there to give had had his gift embittered, we went there each our own way, but we must forgive ourselves as we must forgive the world for allowing it to happen, and if we want to stop going there we need to stop using it as an excuse to take others there too.

along the linear

Sometimes I wonder how I got here, to this point in my life, and then I read something I wrote 13 years ago and go: oh, so that is why...
http://www.mikseri.net/artists/wrathage/hellworlds/131658/

Hellowrlds
Through a plateau myriad
The structures reach
Like a transdimensional plague
Something we never did confront
But stand affected

A grand sewer that swallowed
Our race aeons ago

We reflect it’s grandeur
While fading
Into that darkness
We reflect it’s grandeur
While fading
Into the downward spiral

The deep end of the structure
The fourth quarter of impatience
As our worlds are infected
Like we weren’t parasites ourselves

Through a myriad worlds of hell
The conclusion is sent
As an act of mercy
Or in disgust

We are impatient to receive

“Hellworlds, a bowl of black i bathe and baptise
Is it enough to enter the hellworlds, to extinction
Heroism is cowardice, your virtues your demise
Rotting and a half, Battle army of flamemolded giants
Endless harm, revelation of an apocalypse
Above i see the old man, and above i see the horns
Hell is here, and you’d rather be somewhere else
The downward spiral, rather tempting”

...we fall with the last grains of sand through the narrow of the hour glass, and there we are greeted with the inevitability of the bottom, all the worlds have sunk to hell and and we shift from process to pathology.
It is not that I wanted to see this, but I could see that the system we have is much like a drain, and when you remove the cork, you can already know where it will go, and the dream will be empty as we have all fallen through the floor.
Maybe I went faster, and at first I felt alone, but since I was here, I built a house, and it is still in the world, even if it is in hell, we exist, we adapt, we live. The acidic rains, the cancerous air, the dead seas, these are what we have made, the conclusion of what we have done and from where do we now begin, because we are still here, in the linear procession, up is down now, we are already going back the other way, we have a new paradigm.

Indirect effects of anti-capitalist action

This is the hidden spearhead of the activist's effort already buried deep between the ribs of the corporate carcass (alive like a rotting animal is festering with life, insects and scavengers).
You attack the company, burn some buses for example, and the company gets the buses back from the insurance firm, but if the insurance firm has to pay for the buses, and the buses get torched again and again, the price of the insurance will go up. This does not hurt just one company, but the whole corporate system.
So, consistent anti-capitalist activity does have an effect, because it drives up the expenses, especially when there are environmental issues at stake, because if governments are forced to limit the profit seeking companies and require them to make sure there is no environmental damage due the citizen opinion and activism, the costs to make the profit go even higher.
And if the destruction companies have to pay for extra high insurances for their machines, or better yet, can't get an insurance, then the risk involved will be higher and it will be more difficult to get investments.
Fracking, nuclear power, mining, destruction of forests will all become less and less profitable the more the activists cause material damage to the companies with blockades, vandalism, boycotts and just raising awareness. Direct action has indirect results, and consistent action will topple the entire system, because actually the system functions on outsourced expenditure; profit is always derived from unequal trade, be that with nature or with work. The CEO's hour is worth thousands just as the money crop is harvested from impoverished fields. When the mine is abandoned, the nature gets a gaping wound in return.
If the corporations would actually have to take the values of nature and humanity into consideration, and their profit making would be limited within the confines of sustainable culture, then the corporations could actually be permitted to do their thing. But as long as their thing is maximal profit, what they do is also maximal exploitation, and maximal exploitation should be met with absolute resistance.

And here is a link with some moderate discussion on the topic:

Word and Image falling vol. 2

And here is another very interesting news article from the polarized cacophony that is modern medias, and notice that this is an RT news story, again, as I regularly check also what the Eastern machine is saying, and I have to say the world we live in does appear to be like the trans-postmodernist visions of some of the worst/best acid heads of the last century: dire times of impending catastrophe, sauve qui peut, word an image falling, smell of burnt film, the nostalgia going stale as the heavy corporate issue boots trample on the discarded pics that litter the suburban cobble stone streets, the memories as illusory as lacking in reference, and these photos, pocked marked by the burns, collateral distortion of the run-down empty message still aired as the earth is scorched, like the stones missing from the pavement, fundamental holes in the structure, you see, you can observe, when you turn off of the main street, see behind the scenic props of this system now shaking down to its core, the master narratives are slowly falling,

Vuodoista

http://yle.fi/uutiset/kahdeksan_vuotoa_ja_paljastusta_jotka_puhuttivat_maailmaa/8807774

Inverted transcendence

Always evolving beyond the natural of physics,
we can no longer tell the difference
but know that it’s growing
whatever it may be

Must have been simpler
to foresee God’s open arms
like a paved way
to transcend
with mellow tranquility

My thoughts exactly
as I paved the way
with a joint
waiting for the shrooms

to reinvent existence,
slightly cheating
if you ask the ascetics,
I don’t

My rules are written
on the blank canvas
of the background space

but I can’t agree
to being born that way
You see, a child is more
like everything than nothing

The position, in stead, is blank,
a child would have to agree,
there are no familiar shapes
in the topography everything
from an all new perspective

The strangest thing is nothing,
all too familiar,
ultimately like a homing beacon
making everything an illusion
that’s the homogeny at work,
unfolding desolate

I would suggest that further
dimensions are natural,
it must have felt like
even the third was paranormal
when the child discovered
the world wasn’t a canvas

Others aren’t still convinced,
they say all is but God
and no further discussion is required
or welcome

that we have been shut
into ourselves
for the coming eternity;
the soul is an individuation
and because it’s ideal
it’s infinite

I just can’t agree,
a bummer it would be
I suggest rather use the back door,
it’s open if you are
just look inside

but don’t expect nothing,
expect everything,
dosed according to the whim of winds

It’s not beyond
but below

You see,
grace, the soul
is always assigned
to outer characteristics,
some observable trait;
She’s kind and loving, see,
but doesn’t fool me

The soul is an illusion if something,
a shroud worn for the occasion of death,
but you can never tell
when the spectre comes,
so you are always dressed to go

Unless it caught you
on a bad moment,
pants down,
as if you weren’t eternal
on the moments of release
and relieve

It’s the animal that dies,
they say, leaving nothing
but it’s the animal
that has been
and can never be undone

You see, time is movement
and the animal moves
even if you didn’t
but you’re no stone angel,
are you?

And even if I sit here,
I might have escaped,
beneath that shroud,
unworthy but transcending cumulatively
for more regions to come

Cut off like you
and alone

but I allow for more
than just myself.

On Animation

This blistering voice
in the sound, the atmosphere
layers of frequencies and murmur

I am tolerant only if I don't  fall to fear
but that happens as well

and jagged hands have touched
the sensitized skin

both hands and skin mine
seething with rebellious cells
like all of us seeing their own dreams

feeling the sonic drill in this here timespace cone
and where do sound and light come blurred with
sour teeth and tea

-- Here --

so let me be crawled
and coiled
in hunting the history
of the life I have

orienteering into the future
and myth, mechanics and code

this cipher

and live, be animated
on command,
let eons flow;
arrays of mountainous tops
peaking in waves of perspective
that amount to perception

and bring together
the disjointed fragments
that still hold sentry over me
lest I walk away
from this isolation

and leave the self be individual
in someone else's body
to scatter in entropy

and we, then together and free,
untie the cropped interfaces
that damned and doomed
all oceans, archipelago
and continents
dividable into separation
only in our calculus and measure
as we brake numbers and entities
into infinite decimal

let quanta become a current
where palimpsest waves
and all become animate
on the command
of my decision
that I refuse individuality

like I would refuse incarceration
into fantastic prisons

like I wouldn't walk
right through
undetectable walls.

No, really
sometimes I sleep ashamed
that I let myself be thus molested
and forced to interact
with alien separatist figment.

(If the self was not an immaterial soul
that animates the matter of the body,
as like that of the world,
is it then an accumulation matter uses
to gain a perspective into itself?)
